Monolithos is a mountain village, about 73 km from the town of Rhodes, with a population of about 130 people, graphical due to its location, its castle and traditional character of its houses. It is amphitheatrically built on Akramitis's mountain foot (the second highest mountain of Rhodes).

It is mainly an agricultural village with Olives and Olive Oil production, Honey, Grapes, and most of the villagers who live permanently there, work on their land.

There are a few tavernas and traditional greek cafeterias, and you can buy local products like Olives, Olive Oil, Honey, Souma, Wine, at good prices directly from the producers. Lamb is very good there, the prices in general are quite good and the food traditional and tasty!!

Close to the village (not close enough for walking though) is the beautiful beach of Fournoi, a peaceful pebbled beach with crystal clear turquoise waters, it is partly organised with a few umbrellas and a small cantina. Around the area, there are quite a few caves for the exploring...

Another beautiful beach of Monolithos is Glyfada beach, a rocky (large pebbles) beach not very good for swimming due to the rocks, but beautiful, due to the blue-green waters and the forest surrounding it. A couple of tavernas are on the beach, a good location for lunch. This beach is not organised.

But the main attraction is the picturesque Medieval Venetian Castle built on a huge 230m tall rock (this is where the village name was derived, mono - is single, lithos is rock) on at 1480 by the Knights of St John. Especially the sunsets from the castle are incredible! Check the sunset times in our Sunrise & Sunset timetable before you plan your visit, you will need about an hour drive from the town of rhodes to reach the village.
